Jeld-Wen just rolled out a wave of third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations covering vinyl and wood windows, interior doors, and exterior doorsets across North America and Europe. For architects and spec writers chasing embodied carbon data, the newly consolidated portfolio—76 EPDs and counting—closes one of the more stubborn gaps in the residential and light-commercial fenestration category.

A Transparency Push Aimed Squarely at the Spec Sheet

Jeld-Wen has quietly done something that will matter more to spec writers than to shareholders: it has substantially expanded its portfolio of third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations across both North America and Europe. The announcement, made from Charlotte, N.C. on June 23, 2026, covers newly released EPDs across vinyl and wood windows, interior doors, exterior doorsets, and other building solutions.

For a category that has historically lagged commercial glazing on environmental disclosure, that's meaningful. Windows and doors are among the most-specified building products by unit count, but their embodied carbon data has often been thin, inconsistent, or missing entirely from the residential and light-commercial side of the market.

What's Actually in the Package

The expanded library is not a marketing gesture. The EPDs are third-party verified by UL Environment, aligned with ISO 14025 standards, and provide transparent data on carbon footprint, material composition, and resource use.

On the European side, the disclosures follow the region's dominant standard. Jeld-Wen has completed new EPDs aligned with EN 15804, covering major building envelope products such as timber windows, exterior doors, and related glazed components manufactured throughout its European facilities. As of January 2026, 76 EPDs are available on the EPD Hub, segregated by country of manufacture.

That country-of-manufacture segregation is a detail worth flagging. Embodied carbon varies significantly depending on grid mix, transportation distance, and manufacturing energy sources. Lumping all facilities into a single generic EPD tends to overstate performance for some plants and understate it for others. Splitting them out gives specifiers cleaner numbers to plug into LCA models.

Why This Matters for LEED, BREEAM, and DGNB

Green building rating systems have steadily tightened their treatment of product-specific environmental data. Generic industry-average EPDs still earn some credit, but product-specific and manufacturer-specific EPDs increasingly unlock more points—and, in the case of embodied-carbon-focused rating tracks, are effectively required.

According to Jeld-Wen, the expanded portfolio is intended to provide architects, builders and designers with additional data to support material selection and green building projects, including those pursuing LEED, BREEAM and DGNB certifications.

That trio—LEED in North America, BREEAM in the UK and Europe, and DGNB primarily in Germany and continental Europe—covers most of the major certification frameworks a global manufacturer would need to serve. Getting product-specific EPDs into all three ecosystems is table stakes for a manufacturer trying to stay in the specification on institutional, government, and corporate projects.

The Scope 3 Angle

The less obvious driver here is Scope 3 emissions accounting. As more building owners, developers, and REITs report their supply-chain emissions—either voluntarily under frameworks like SBTi or under mandatory disclosure regimes in the EU and California—their manufacturers get pulled along.

By expanding its EPD portfolio, Jeld-Wen is giving customers clearer visibility into the sustainability performance of its windows, doors, and related building products, and helping them assess indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 3).

For a general contractor or developer, that translates directly to fewer manual data requests, cleaner reporting, and lower risk of a specified product getting swapped late in the process because it can't produce the environmental documentation the owner needs.

Practical Implications for Specifiers

  • Residential and light-commercial specs get harder to justify without EPDs. As a major volume manufacturer publishes plant-specific data, competitors without equivalent disclosures will look increasingly thin on green projects.
  • Country-of-manufacture segregation changes the math. Specifiers should verify which plant supplies a given project rather than assuming a portfolio-average number.
  • The EPD Hub is now a core reference. With 76 Jeld-Wen EPDs live there, teams doing LCAs on European projects have a single place to pull verified data.
  • Vinyl windows finally have credible disclosure at scale. Vinyl has been one of the harder categories to document; product-specific EPDs make it easier to defend the material choice on green-certified projects.
  • Interior doors are now in scope for embodied carbon. Historically overlooked in envelope-focused LCAs, interior doorsets add up on large multifamily and institutional projects.

The broader signal: fenestration transparency is catching up to the flat-glass and structural-materials categories that got there first. For architects, GCs, and envelope consultants, the practical takeaway is simpler EPD sourcing—and fewer excuses for spec swaps late in design.
